- Preface
There are misunderstandings that happen in International Standardized School. Most of peoples think that SBI or SRBI are the school that using English as language in teaching process learning process, or when the setting of class has U-letter design or when the teacher using PowerPoint slide in their teaching.
International-Standard School learning process based on international standard. Using English is just one part. There are still a lot of think that should be prepared and improve. The International-Standard School must meet eight standard national of education and complete with international standard level.
Teachers who have international standardized should develop their way to teach, make students’ worksheet, improve the method of teach and use variation of teaching aids. The schools based on computer technology management. Schools’ facilitates accommodate the students’ need. There also have to meet Standard of content, standard of process and many others.
To perform International-Standard Schools, that schools need a lot of support from many element of education. One of them is supervisor. Supervisor make sure that schools can do their program well by evaluate together with element of school. So, a supervisor is very important to make sure that the school always improve their quality. Now, I will share how to promote international – standard school by looking the criteria the school can be said to be international-standard school.
- RSBI In Indonesia
The history of international-standard of school Indonesia was started in 1990-an. There are many of school that claim to be International-standard of School, but there was no policy that organize it clearly. The high economic levels of family prefer to study abroad in International-standard that in Indonesia. Indonesia thinks that it need to develop international-standard to facilitate the student who want to continue study in abroad. Indonesia is big country, so we must be exist in international level. Looking for this reason, the government start to develop international-standard school.
School is said to be international-standard school have if they meet several standard of education, that are 8 standard or school and complete with international standard. The standard of school are about standard of contents, standard of process, standard of graduate’s competence, standard of teacher, standard of facilitate, standard of management, standard of fee, and the last is standard of evaluation education .
The schools that meet those standards are guided and supported by supervisor to be International-Standard Schools (RSBI). There are some criteria so that the school is said to be International standard, that are :
1. Meet the eight standard national education
2. For elementary school, there are 10 % of teacher had minimal S2/S3 graduate, while junior high school is 20 % and then senior high school is 30 %.
3. The headmaster minimal S2 graduate and can speak English passive or active
4. The accreditation of school having A point
5. The facilitate of school based on computer technology
6. Employ the school based curriculum (KTSP) and complete with international curriculum
7. The school is computer based management
8. The evaluation systems include of the final examination and complete with international exam level.
- The role of supervisor
In educational system need a coordination in all element of system, one person or one team are being leader. The leader must know the situation in their system so that they can evaluate the result of program, and analyze whether the goals was achieved or not. In educational system there are supervisor.
What is the role of supervisor? Supervisor have to know and analyze whether the school programs is run or not. They also have to measure how far the development of their school. Supervise is need to improve the quality of the school on the way to grab education goal. Supervisors also need to evaluate the element of school, such as teachers, facilitate of school, students, and the head master. When there are some shortages, supervisor will give some suggestions to fix. So, supervisor is badly needed to make sure that the school can improve the quality.
- How to promote international level of schooling
We had now the criterion of International-Standard school and the role of supervisor. If I were a supervisor I will do my duty as well as I can.
First, I will be better personality person, because my duty needs social competences. I think, I will meet a lot of people with different characteristic. Sometime I found teacher who have good qualified teacher, but sometime maybe I will meet the lazy teacher. I should give suggestion and evaluate their way of teach, of course I need good communication.
Second, I will improve my English. In international standard of school is better when we develop good communication in English. When I doing evaluation, assessment and meeting using English, it will give real example for teacher and headmaster to learn English too.
Third, I will visit in some class and looking the situation happened in class. I will evaluate the learning process, about the method that teacher use, the source of learning, the activity of students, etc. Of course, as a supervisor, I need a lot of the information of lattes issue that happen in international level. By this knowledge, I can asses objectively. When the teacher has shortage on their way to teach, I will suggest them to learn more thought lesson study, teacher meeting, seminar, and workshop.
Fourth, I will observe the students’ activity in class. By observing, as a supervisor I can take objective data for consideration to take policy. The data can guide to do the next step for improving the quality of school. I will record the activity in class using video of some pictures, to evaluate the learning process. In the end of observing, I can give some suggestions for headmaster or teacher to arrange new strategy to improve the quality of learning process.
Fifth, I will plan to meeting with teacher and headmaster of school. In that meeting, I will discuss about the criterion of International-Standard School, and making strategy to grab that level. I also discuss about the development of programs in school. I also accept a question from the teacher and lead to solve the problem together.
- Conclusion
To promote international-standard school need the support from all element, not only teacher and headmaster but also school’s committee, member of teacher club, supervisor, students’ parents and etc.
Supervisor is important position because the duty is about evaluate, asses and control the quality of teaching learning process and all component that relate with that.
If I were a supervisor, I will be better personality person, improve my English, visit some class, observing some class, and making meeting.
