In classroom, learning mathematic process must be effective and efiecient. Why? Because there are a lot of material in which have to understand by students. Maybe some material are difficult. For example, Sometimes student can’t solve the argebra equations. Here, calculator may can help the learning prosses.
Calculator is one tools in which can help to solve matemathic question. There are 2 kinds of calculator, regular calculator and scientific calculator. Graph calculator is one example of scientific calculator . Graph calculator can solve mathematic problems quickly and displays result into graphical form.
The benefit using calculator, is can help student more understand and easier to solve mathematic problem. Students can be directly involved in the mathematical calculation process. By using calculator, students can compere the answer by using calculator or not.
One example of graph calculator is Texas Instruments TI 89. The research is about applying this type calculator in SMK Muhammadiyah IV Yogyakarta. The purpose of this research is to identificate the using calculator and to know the students’ response in learning prosses.
There are several command can be used in this calculator, such as: 1). Solve command : command of the algebra feature. We can determine the set of settlement in Linear Inequalities, Quadratic Equations, and systems of Equations 3 variables; 2). Simult command: command of the matrix feature. We can solve systems of linear equations three variables; 3). Ekspand command : command of the feature algebra. For examples is determining the unknown quadratic equation roots.
The students’ respon are positive, such as student can solve problem easier, the class more interesting, and learning more developed. Meanwhile, there are negative impact such as student dependency on graph calculators so high, losing confidence, students are so lazy to think. In the process of using graph calculators some students feel difficulties to understanding about the process of entering data into the calculator, interpret and provide conclusions from the answers of the calculator. This proplem can be overcome by asking the teacher or another friends.
